Virtual World have been around for
a long time. We have been introduced to them since my generation was little.
With games such as Club Penguin where you could interact with your friends,
play games, go shopping, do sporting activities all from the screen of your computer.
This concept again rose with games such as Minecraft and Lego World. Growing up
we get more into and reliant on virtual worlds for enjoyment with video games.
Games like call of duty create an entire world of survival. Some benefits,
other than for pure enjoyment, of virtual worlds like states in the Forbes
article are that “you can use virtual worlds in education, in delivery
services, or as an advanced form of telehealth care that offers so much more
than videoconferencing. Virtual worlds can give us social connectivity,
built-in support groups, and ways to avoid ever being alone again.” This shows
the variety of forms virtual worlds can take from education to healthcare.
Another benefit is using a virtual word as a practice tool for communication
for people who have autism. Like it said in the CNN article, “one benefit is
that visitors can practice social interaction and find information about the
condition. The graphical representations of real people create a "comfort
zone" that can coax users out of their shells and get them communicating
with others.” 3-D modeling is also a possibility and soon can be a possibility
that could happen in our hands. Since the 3-D modeling would be accessible with
just a website and thus can be accessed in a couple of seconds using just our
phones. A negative aspect, when talking socially, to virtual worlds being
constantly pushing upon us is that the more time we spend on them the less time
we spend in the real world. The less time we spend interacting with our family
and friends in person. The less time we spend going out of our comfort zone and
growing as people. As it is known that it is almost impossible going out of
your comfort zone through a comfort screen in the comfort of your own home. We
already started to see the future of virtual worlds with VR. Now when we put on
a head set it not only looks like we are in a different world it feels like it
to. It completely tricks your brain to a point where you can forget where you are.
